Chapter 04 Rob stopped the motor home once they had emerged from the dark entry tunnel. The Rovers were surprised to see an ovisapien and an equusapien wearing doctor's uniforms awaiting them as Rob opened the motor home door. The doctors placed Blitz on a wheeled stretcher, and with Shag following, they wheeled him off into the hallways of the hidden complex. Colleen exclaimed, "Blimey... it's like a zoo in here." Rob was already approaching the tall canosapien German Shepherd. "I'm sorry, Animax. I had to bring them here. Blitz needed medical help." The German Shepherd just nodded to Rob silently. Animax was focused on Hunter. "We finally meet." Animax was dressed up in an old airman's uniform. "Welcome to Millennium Base, Road Rovers. It's not as fancy as what you're used to, I am sure, but it is our home." He held out his paw, expectantly. Hunter stepped forward and shook Animax's paw. "It may not be fancy, but it's big. A lot bigger than Mission Control." The other Rovers were in agreement. Millennium Base was a lot bigger. Animax smiled. "Come on, I'll give you all the primary tour. Rob? Go check on your friend." Rob nodded his head. "Yessir." Rob ran off into the hallways. Animax waited for Rob to leave, then he sighed as he produced a strange device. "Rovers, I hope you'll forgive me, but I need to frisk you. Rob may trust you, but for all I know, any one of you may have a tracking device on them. This is a security measure, I assure you." Hunter was first. "Sure, I understand. We'd probably do the same thing to anyone visiting Mission Control." Hunter got the full scan. He grinned when Animax cleared him. Colleen was next. "Just be careful where you stick that thing, luv. Are you single?" Animax never answered Colleen's question. Colleen was quite glad when Animax cleared her. Exile was last. "Hiya Comrade! How shall I pose? Like this?" Exile struck a pose. Animax simply did his job. Exile was cleared too. Animax asked, "Aside from Shag and Blitz, is there anyone else in the motor home?" Hunter grinned. "Just Muzzle. He's taking a nap, I think. You can go scan him, if you want... but I wouldn't want to wake him up." Animax grinned. "Oh no, I'm not crazy. We ALL know about the one-dog demolition team." The Rovers and Animax laughed. Animax then said, "Now for that tour. Follow me." Chapter 05 As was said before, Millennium Base was indeed huge, though not as fancy as Mission Control. The tour extended through all of the sub- levels, and up into the 'loft' levels, before ending in the 'theatre' control chamber. It was called a theatre because the general size and shape was very akin to a movie theatre, though with three big screens and several command positions. Most were in use as Animax led the three Rovers into the chamber. Colleen remarked, "This is an amazing place, governor. But if you'll excuse me... I really need to powder my nose." Colleen headed off towards one of the on-level bathrooms. Exile was looking over a male husky canosapien's shoulder as the officer worked his position. Hunter smiled to Animax. "You have an amazing place, but you never mentioned what it is for." Animax grinned. "I was hoping you'd ask." Animax led Hunter over to one of the big screens. Animax tapped a series of buttons, and the screen lit up... revealing the image of the Master! The Master said, "Greetings Hunter. Exile." Both Exile and Hunter were staring at the screen, jaws agape. Colleen had just returned from the bathroom and was receiving the same shock. The Master exclaimed, "By now, you've met Animax and a few of the others at Team Millennium. The project you're viewing now is a small pet project I funded a few years ago after the Road Rovers project became so successful. But as successful as it was, General Parvo and the Groomer, as well as countless other enemies throughout your careers, have gained untold strength and even greater powers. At one point, you were all about killed. On that day, I decided to begin work on an expanded anisapien project towards creating a just-in-case team, in the event that you were either in need, or decapacitated during combat. Animax, not his real name, was an Interpol officer living in Germany. He volunteered for the project when he heard that the species I was going to infuse him with was a German Shepherd." Animax grinned. "And I don't regret a moment of it, Master, sir!" The Master continued, "Following Animax were several other anisapiens, all former humans and animals from various parts of the world, as well as from important occupational fields." Hunter interrupted at this point. "Rob doesn't know that you're part human, does he?" Animax sighed. "No, he thinks I am as canosapien as you are, Hunter." Exile came over, and patted Animax's shoulder. "Ya got to tell him, Comrade. He thinks the world of you, next to weird boy, that is." Colleen hummed. {Now's my chance to get on Rob's good side.} "If you'll all pardon me, I think I'll go check up on what's-, er, I mean on Blitz." Colleen turned and headed out of the room. Chapter 06 "Rawraruff?" Shag stood to one side, wringing his paws, seemingly worried about Blitz's condition on the operating table. Rob was also there standing beside Blitz's nude body, holding Blitz's paw, petting it gently. The sheep and horse doctors worked cautiously on Blitz's bloody leg, while an x-ray of Blitz's concussion was being taken. Colleen arrived quietly, and whispered to Shag, "How's he doing, Shag? Will Blitz be okay?" Shag replied, "Rah-rararawruff... Raw-ruh..." Colleen understood, and turned to look at Blitz, who she had often teased and tormented, supposedly all in good humor. Blitz didn't look all that great now. He seemed... vulnerable... Colleen was beginning to feel a lump in her stomach. The equusapien placed Blitz's x-ray images on the lightboard, and studied them. Colleen moved over to have a look, asking, "How does it look, doc?" The equusapien quietly said, "It appears that his skull is slightly damaged. I am sure it will heal, given the proper care. But..." Colleen blinked her eyes. "But what, luv?" The equusapien quietly replied, "...we think his memory node is damaged. He'll likely never be able to even remember that he's a Road Rover, let alone, anything else. He'll likely end up as a vegetable in some nursing facility, lonely and forgotten, needing that one person who could possibly revive him and help restore him. But I am sure you aren't concerned about that, are you Colleen? It's common knowledge that you never liked Blitz in the first place." The equusapien moved over to help the ovisapien with the leg repair. The lump in Colleen's stomach was tightening. She turned and walked over to Blitz's other side, and petted Blitz's shoulder. "I didn't really hate him... it's just that... we're teammates, and we're supposed to have a little fun with each other... I'm sorry if it appeared that I was singling him out... Rob... what can I do to help?" The brown-haired, blue-eyed Rob looked up to Colleen and said, "Just be nice to Blitz. Is that so hard for you? Parvo did this to Blitz and is probably celebrating his victory, while Blitz suffers here on this operating table." Rob finally begins crying, holding Blitz's paw to his face. Colleen was starting to get that -look- in her eye. {Party while you can, Parvo... No one puts my Blitzie down, but me!} Colleen proceeded out of the operating room. She was upset that Rob, that cute boy, was crying. {Watch your back, Parvo... Colleen will be gunning for you...} As Colleen was leaving the operating room, Blitz's eyes opened, but only a little. {Where am I? Who are all these people? Why is this boy crying on my hand?} He closed his eyes again.
